What should I do if my gemstones break?
Working with gemstones can be rewarding but tricky especially when they break.
To ensure your gemstones don't go to waste here are a few things you can do:
Reset the stones- Remove the gemstone pieces from their setting and reset as two separate gemstones, using a claw or bezel setting.
Kinstugi- Be inspired by the Japanese philosophy of imbracing imperfections and make a feature of the broken gemstone making the cracks gold with gold leaf
Wire Wrapping- If the broken pieces are fairly large you can wire wrap them, making a loop at the top to add as a bail.
Embrace it- If your gemstone is already set in a bezel, the crack often won't affect the security of the stone setting and make the design more unique
