How strong is silver plated wire?

The strength of the plated wire will depend on what the silver is plated on. The strength of the silver plated item would also depend on what condition the base metal is in.

Condition refers to whether the metal is soft, half-hard, or hard.

• Brass is the metal most commonly used to be plated on.

• If the silver is plated onto steel then the plated wire would be much stronger than silver.

As a general rule, silver plated wire is much stronger than sterling silver.
